Maybe this could be good but it needs a lot of optimization. A top down 2D game really shouldn't be that slow even in a browser. It's also very unclear what to do at the start. I only played for a few minutes because I didn't really know where to begin. My only comparison would be to Harvest Moon or Stardew valley where you're given some tasks immediately to get you started. Even a very short intro would help a lot to just get you started on the first game mechanics. Without anything to do a lot of people are just going to bounce off of it especially since moving around the world is so sluggish that it isn't even fun to just walk around and explore the farm.
Hope I wasn't too harsh. It does look like you've accomplished a lot and it is the type of game I enjoy playing sometimes. A bit more work on performance and UX is probably all you need to have a finished game that would be fun to play.
When I broke my leg a few years back the ambulance was only 15-20 minutes behind mountain rescue. They took me to the nearest hospital where they set my leg in a cast and then transported me to my local hospital half an hour away at around midnight. I was operated on around noon.
They started me on light physio the day after the operation and taught me how to walk on crutches. I continued to receive weekly 1 on 1 physio until I was able to walk with one crutch, at which point I was able to attend group physio. I got a few X-Rays during this time to see how my leg was healing.
I was back to climbing after 6 months, having been discharged from physio for a month at that point.
All of this cost me £0.
I've since donated to the local mountain rescue service, but everything else is covered by my taxes and NI.
There ongoing and preventative care has gotten bad enough that it can drive you to A&E to actually get seen. Last time I called my NHS doctor I was given an appointment 3 weeks out and my mom just waited 6 weeks for an X-ray on her foot.
But that's not the straw man that the comment I responded to was attempting to construct.
It's widely known that non-critical care is a postcode lottery. But in the few times I and others have needed the NHS in life-or-death situations, they have been nothing short of amazing.
Very cool! Just as constructive feedback, I feel like the physics could improve a bit (walking through the wheels and buckets, seeing the contents inside the garage but not seeing anything when under the silos etc.), but the details are great, love the mud on the tractor tracks when leaving a field, and the car beams when blocking the path.
I need to improve the performance but I disagree it looks like every other claude game. I spent a long time iterating on the artwork style to get it to the point where it's at now. I haven't seen a game that looks as good as mine
yeah, unfortunately I was the same. I really liked the loading bar too. It reminded me of all those old school flash and shockwave games. When it hit 1% though, I bailed.
I'm def going to sit down and try this out today but perhaps you could move the "mobile support" alert to happen before the asset loading progress bar :)

Thanks for the feedback, I'll work on this

I blew up the tractor and paid 10k for hospital treatment. I know the NHS is on its knees but sheesh
This is the American Dream I’ve been hearing about
American defaultism in the LLMs used to make this.
If you want to actually get treatment, you need to pay.

Not sure what reality you live in, but NHS Emergency care is among the best in the world.
Specifically emergency yes.

I cannot agree more. GPs and sometimes A&E is sheesh, but if you get through to specialist NHS is amazing
Not true at all, especially in this scenario (emergency), when you finally leave hospital there is no bill to pay for the treatment you received.
No bill for anything - accommodation, food, ambulance transfers, treatment, medicines...
You definitely do not need to pay to get acute injuries treated.
In fact if you do get private treatment in the UK they make it clear that if things go badly wrong they will take you to an NHS hospital.
Private hospitals won't even take emergencies.
I wanted to close the "email me" window and reflexivly clicked on the "X"... :D
Did the same, could be a dark pattern... though I don't get the feeling it wasn't intentional.
It could have told me that the game doesn't work on mobile before downloading all the assets
I second this. I was waiting so excitedly just to be disappointed afterwards :(

Kinda reminds me of SimFarm, from back in the early 90's! Anyone else have fond memories of SimFarm?
When I tried to cultivate a field, it said it would say it was already cultivated. If I tried to roller it, it would say it needed cultivating first.
Doesn’t work on mobile sadly, but I do love (the Swiss) Farming Sims :P I’ll give it a go on desktop later and give some feedback.
This is cool and all but the controls don't work on my laptop. I keep going up.
shift+arrows should run. It's quite slow to move around. Kudos on the development.
Tried to load page, got stuck on progress bar.
Linux/firefox
Same:
Uncaught Error: Link Shader failed: Uniform `uResolution` is not linkable between attached shaders. createResource https://butterbean.farm/assets/main-CnwQUCTP.js:4933
Should be fixed now
can I choose Lambo as tractor?
It's going to be a spreadsheet and a bunch of impenetrable PDFs, isn't it?
That’s my favourite kind of game! Management simulation. Hate it IRL, love it for games.
Nope, that's the EU farming subsidy simulator. The UK left the Common Agricultural Policy after Brexit.
(Although I doubt its home grown replacement is much better.)

the walking WASD controls don't work on my AZERTY keyboard
I can't walk :D
Looks like every other claude game and it's laggy to the point I just closed it immediately.

Firefox/Ubuntu I can't seem to move my farmer: clicking does nothing and arrow keys also don't move him.
just WASD :( Arrows are for driving. Not sure why the split, when you drive, you can't walk, obviously.
I gave up as soon as I saw the slow moving loading bar.
You need to really prioritize getting the player to something interesting on screen as quickly as possible and then loading things in the background.
A few seconds is all you get in this world, if you don’t sieze it, you’re internet roadkill.
Fair point. I’ll rethink the loading

why does it take a billion years to load the assets lmao
We don't do good software any more. We do fast, agentic software.
