Super weird that the only relationship documented in this article is two "dinners with AI executives in Asia." Does that count as a close relationship? I get invited to AI dinners in the Bay Area nonstop, and I understand they are always transactional (people wanting to sell me stuff), not actual relations with people who just happen to enjoy my presence...
TFA also offers no support for the assertion she's a "spy" vs just a source. When most people hear "spy" they think of a "Non-Official Cover" agent (aka NOC in the biz) with training, a false identity and a directed mission. But those are actually extremely rare. The vast majority of 'spying' is not done by 'spies' in that sense. It's basic information gathering from normal people who are already in a job which puts them in casual contact with a person, company or agency of interest.
There are literally thousands of these 'sources' for every NOC on a targeted mission. Many of these sources aren't even paid, they're just predisposed to be friendly to the nation who wants the info and willing to pass along things they see or hear in exchange for a favor or access. Most of what they pass along is irrelevant and useless impressions or chatter but it's all captured and cross-referenced by analysts.
When Jensen makes a two day visit to some Asian country like Singapore, he probably has over a dozen meetings including various local employees, distributors, vendors, govt agencies or media contacts. Nvidia's posture and distribution plans in Asia are of great interest to China, since they're trying to divert a good chunk of those GPUs to China. I have no doubt the Chinese (and other intel agencies) got reports from over half a dozen different sources regarding what happened during Jensen's visit.
Jensen is very smart and has a lot of experience. He knows he's a high-value target and everyone is info gathering on him. Hypothetically, even if he was banging the hot, young distributor rep when visiting Singapore (and I doubt he is), she wouldn't get any actionable intel. Not because she might send an email report to Chinese intelligence but because she'll certainly give a detailed report to her bosses at the distributor. All of NVidia's distributors are trying to glean any competitive insight or favor from NVidia they can.
Great reporting can come from unlikely sources. If you told anyone from 2013 that TMZ would be a semi-respected publication in 2026, you’d have been laughed out of the room.
A couple of questions after reading this article. The Post is not exactly top notch journalism.
First, does her activity actually fit the definition of “espionage”?
Espionage is the act of secretly gathering confidential, classified, or proprietary information without the owner's permission
The most important question is what she actually sent and how secret it was. Most companies have levels of secrecy ranging from non public to highly sensitive. For example, schematics of their chip would be concerning.
Also, this seems pretty different from setting up a mic behind a TV.
Second, although the article tries very hard to imply there was some kind of infidelity, adding irrelevant details about Jensen’s family, I don’t know that any of that happened.
If she is an asset and was close enough to gain physical access to his phone or main computer, that's pretty much the ballgame. CEOs often don't want their devices being on company MDMs, that's for the underlings.
I agree with everything you said, but all we know is that she had business meetings with him.
The picture in the article has a bunch of other people around them, in a bar/club. Pretty sure he wasn’t laying out the blueprints for the next chip right then and there.
Of course not. But he wouldn't need to do that if she is a honeypot. Remember, this guy was photographed while autographing a woman's chest like a rockstar just a couple years ago. Combined with the leather jacket look, he gives off a vibe of an executive that likes to party.
I'll go as far as to say it's a right wing agitation propaganda rag. But the story first appeared in the NY Times, as another commenter has linked here,, so it's possible that the story may be accurate (though undoubtedly the nypost has sensationalized it, as that's their specialty), but both things can be true simultaneously. The NY Post can be trash and this series of events might have really happened.
Not sure why the New York Post is being used here considering its complete lack of credibility and the fact this story appeared in the New York Times first
Sure. But I'm sure linking to a paywall inevitably affects the traffic to the post. Extra clicks and scrolling to find a readable link only adds friction.
I'm not an NY Post reader but I respect them for breaking the Hunter Biden laptop story in 2020. The "credible" outlets tried to claim it was disinformation at the time. It took the NY Times 17 months to acknowledge that it was true.
I view them all as ideologically captured propaganda and tools of political interests. I'm also perfectly fine with that. What bothers me is denial from them and their ardent readers that they are not actually "fair and balanced" or objective on stories that can be used to score political points.
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that this is just a hit piece - IE, they were looking to paint Nvidia and Jensen in some bad light and found a vague lead. Didn't matter if the evidence isn't substantial. Just publish and smear first.
I disagree, I think this piece is the consequence of the Trump administration’s inaction. It isn’t even really a hit on Jensen:
> Mr. Huang has not received a defensive briefing, warnings sometimes given to Americans who are being targeted by foreign intelligence services, people briefed on the surveillance said.
It’s essentially saying intelligence was gathered that a Chinese asset was close to Jensen and absolutely nothing was done about it.
He's the CEO of a company that is in it's second of 15-ish years 'selling shovel' booms. The guy who's motto has been 'We are 30 days from going out of business' for... about-ish 30 years.
Corporate espionage should have been a concern for a good part of that in his communications.
We have no clue what actually happened. For all we know it's a case of 'he was warned, his internal security groups already knew, and they were feeding useless info the whole time'.
This is how news reporting works. The sources are not willing to speak publicly because they're talking about classified information. The NYT has verified their identity. You have to trust that NYT is right.
I realize that's an unsatisfactory answer for many. But it's how journalism has to work sometimes.
Yes, you are. On the record just means “for publication”, as in, you are aware that what you’re saying is going to be repeated publicly. The phrase has nothing to do with public attribution.
> On-the-record, in journalism, means anything in a communication may be publicly disclosed
Nothing has to be collected. All they need to show is that she has some link to foreign government intelligence and attempted to do anything. Good chance she was an unregistered agent which is a violation.
What exactly does "better" mean? Both are tools for manipulating public opinion. The NYT is better at inflating it's own reputation.
If NYT was honest, at some point in the past decade it would have acknowledged that one of the primary reporters on its Donald Trump beat was the daughter of an executive VP at the long-time PR firm of Fred and Donald Trump.
There's a man that fell off the subway platform, about to get killed by the subway train, and the New York post photographer saw a great opportunity for a photo op for his employer instead of, y'know helping the guy out. Sure, the NYT has had its fair share of scandals but the NY Post isn't well respected for a whole other level of malfeasance.
It wasn't an employee, it was a freelancer who likely tried to sell the photo to multiple outlets. The guy also explained that it didn't happen as you describe https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-20611140
The NY Post is crass, we all know that. But if that's your best example of their malfeasance, then I guess they aren't that evil after all.

If you can’t tell the difference between two things that are obviously very different, you lack discernment. It’s nothing to do with snobbery, although people who struggle with such issues often perceive it that way because they don’t want to acknowledge shortcomings in themselves.
About the DDoS, were they not aimed at someone trying to dox the maintainer and pretty much ruin their life? Sounds like defending to me, not attacking. I have absolutely no problem contributing my bandwidth to their defense while visiting the site.
Isn't Cami Clark just the classic sleep-their-way-up type? She didn't end up in the Whitehouse unlike a certain other one but her marriage at 20 was to a 64 year old...
Well, no, because she approached Jeffrey Epstein after his release from serving a prison sentence for child prostitution, and proposed (to him!) that they start up a "porn company" together. There are no "classic" explanations for that specific chapter of her biography.
I don't know what to make of this person's life story; she's certainly an extreme statistical outlier.
> US authorities have been investigating Megaspeed over suspicions that it helped Chinese firms circumvent US export restrictions and smuggle advanced Nvidia chips into China, the Times reported.
They thought they were honeypotting Jensen but turns out it was actually just two 6000 Pro Blackwell cards in a leather trenchcoat running the AI model used to generate Tupacs hologram
It is funny that the spy profile picture is totally photo-shopped compared to her in real life. Unrecognizable. But looks like to be common for older Chinese to alter that much profile pictures.
$1 billion for trafficking would be 100,000 trafficking victims at a rate of $10,000 per victim, which is claimed by LLMs and some Internet sites. It does not make sense and looks like another operation where ironically the trafficking was the cover.
In other words, we know nothing about the real dynamics that led to the "suicides" of Epstein and Brunel.
The linked nypost article certainly means to imply an illicit affair, both in how things are phrased and the mention of his wife and kids (the existence of which has no bearing on the story other than to remind you they exist while he is hanging out with some other female).
It's still advisable to pretend that it might work, though. Just saying...you've got to think strategically when you work in the national security business.
Ironically if the press had hounded Mitterand out of office over a sex scandal, France would likely be in far better shape today. More than anyone else he converted France from a nation of builders to a nation of takers.
Jared Kushner’s direct access to the Russian oligarch is more damning than any Chinese industrial espionage campaign, which happens every day around the world. Yesterday, Russia was a hostile energy supplier; today, it is an energy-trading partner. Good or bad depends on who is in power.
Given that China is releasing open weight, self-hostable models I'd far rather NVIDIA work with them than with the US and the closed source model providers. I'd rather have a Chinese model running on my own machine with NVIDIA hardware than an Anthropic/OpenAI/X model running in a data center somewhere, for multiple reasons.
being a solider is not getting laid and doing stupid BS 95% of the time, and living in life-ending terror 5% of the time.
prostitues, esp. fancy government ones, only have to work 2 hours a day, on their back. low chance of dying. and getting laid, albeit maybe not your ideal partner.
Here on HN, the submitter submitted a link to the NYPost article, but in the description they put a link to the NYTimes version and an archive.is capture of the NYTimes.
> I didn't see sources in either article in the second paragraph
Paragraph 2 from the New York Post article:
“The woman, Alice Huang, also known as Huang Le, is a Chinese citizen who has served as a top executive at Singapore-based Megaspeed, an Nvidia customer and cloud partner that provides AI computing power to Chinese companies including Alibaba, the New York Times reported Thursday.”
That's not a source. The source would be whoever the New York Times talked to, which they actually don't cite:
> This account is based on interviews with people briefed on the surveillance, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the findings are drawn from classified intelligence, as well as other officials and industry executives and analysts.
It very literally is. A biography on Thomas Jefferson will list sources. It would be beyond nonsense to suggest the book has no sources because it didn't talk to a dead man.
> The source would be whoever the New York Times talked to
That would be their source. Someone complaining about the Post should know the difference.
> Roughly a year ago, Mr. Trump was briefed about the intelligence findings, which have not been previously reported, and chose not to do anything with the information.
to be fair Jensen seems to be rubbing butts with pretty much anyone the past year. Every day I see a new video with him and some billionaire / podcaster / influencer et cetera.
The technology is honey for the flies of geopolitics.
"The woman, Alice Huang, also known as Huang Le, is a Chinese citizen who has served as a top executive at Singapore-based Megaspeed, an Nvidia customer and cloud partner that provides AI computing power to Chinese companies including Alibaba, the New York Times reported Thursday."
Do you think that when Jensen talks to Sam Altman or Amodei they don't chat on the phone with Donald Trump?? This is just a smear.
No idea why you're getting down voted here. People are obviously willfully ignorant that a business would not be interested in doing business and making money, they really don't care who the customer is or why they're spending.
I perceive that it is our national interest to collaborate widely and collegially worldwide, including with Chinese businesses and scientists. This "red scare" is so stupid. I do not give one crap about OpenAI or Anthropic making a killing. I am more likely to personally benefit from cheap, democratically controlled, and internationally regulated AI. It is clear that America is a Nazi country. We're the bad guys!
Claude was already used in offensive operations in Iran and Venezuela. Why on earth would I want America to have a commanding lead on this? So we can drone strike anyone who disagrees with renaming the Pacific the "American Ocean"?
This is an apparent nothingburger with zero hint of anything outside plain old business schmoozing on Jensen's part. 'Close relationship' is a really good weasel word (weasel phrase?).
> Roughly a year ago, Mr. Trump was briefed about the intelligence findings, which have not been previously reported, and chose not to do anything with the information. Mr. Trump has been wary of disrupting Nvidia’s chip sales, which are helping to drive the economy and the stock market, and of further complicating the trading relationship with China.
Sounds like the dead ANT faction with their monopoly wrapped in sanctimony schemes wants to throw shade on the smartest guy in the room, as if Trump or anyone around him is going to believe anything that comes out of the NY Times anyway. I wouldn't expect these people to lose gracefully but this is just pathetic.
When is this industry going to have an open, honest discussion about how not getting enough trim in your younger years makes you especially vulnerable to these schemes once you acquire power and wealth?
I've seen 80 variations of this same story over the years.
Gates and Bezos slept around with younger women and lost more in divorces than 99.9999% of men could ever dream of making.
Elon has recreated the backstabbing and infighting of imperial harem politics with a bunch of women he didn't even physically sleep with.
Despite his other failings you have to give Zuck credit for genuinely being a wholesome wifeguy by all appearances.
It’s a generational thing. Zuck is about the age when being nerdy became a perfectly normal thing in mainstream culture. When Gates and co were growing up their personality was the butt of jokes, and they’d be laughed at for trying to approach the “popular” kids.
That seems like either the behavior of an extremely devoted husband or the behavior of a husband who cheats shamelessly and then gives her showy gifts to "make up for it"
With the blowups of 2 prominent "wifeguys" in recent years and Zuck's attempt at being more "masculine", as he called it, I'm suspecting it's the latter.
iirc, it originally was gonna be of himself but he changed it because that looked a bit too…on the nose.
I think the wife hates it.
Many of those with options see it as a badge of pride to stay loyal. One of those, ya I could if I wanted to but hey look I have self control…most of the time.
Bezos i dont think is in the same bucket as gates. If you read about it, he was blackmailed for cheating and said f it and that is how his wife found out. Even then, he seems to be into…older women if his new wife is anything to go by.
Both of Bezos' wives are 6 years younger than him (he's 62 and both MacKenzie Scott and Lauren Sánchez are 56). Their ages are only noteworthy for being so completely not noteworthy for a rich guy. It seems like he has age-appropriate taste in women.
I don't really understand the common wisdom that if you get enough when you're young, you won't want it later. It wasn't espionage, but Shannon Sharpe just lost a $100M ESPN media deal last year for chasing young tail, and he has been fit, wealthy, and famously a playboy surrounded by women since his early 20s if not earlier.
From what I have seen the truth is closer to the opposite; that you don't get it out of your system. You get it into your system. I'm afraid that if one truly wants to avoid these scandals you're better off following the Mike Pence playbook, not the Tony Stark one.
Why think about it and draw conclusions from there? That's not how science works. Why should something like sexual proclivities be treated any different? Do we think about how there must be a couple od basic elements and fire is one of them and it's inside the candle and that's how it all works? I mean, just think about it for more than five seconds! How else could a candle work unless the fire is already inside it!
Anyway, here's an actual study about sociosexuality that followed 288 men and those that got married and had kids
showed a decrease in casual sex vs men who didn't.
I think that is a rather simplistic view of what motivates people.
I would at least like to see some statistics on how much early adulthood behaviour predicts particular later life behaviours before making any conclusions.
Rather than characterising things as 'getting enough trim' perhaps a broader education in dealing with the emotions of life might be more productive.
In a society as transactional as ours (contemporary US culture) one must ask themselves "cui bono?" a hundred times a day. I'd imagine that if the answer is "me" enough times the one develops blind spots such as this one.
On the flip side novels have been written about the lies people tell themselves when they get romantically entangled with obvious troublemakers. Those plots didn't come from nowhere...
It's not an unreasonable point, but let's not pretend these are naive chumps who crumble at the sight of a woman. In this case, Jensen could have been coordinating with intel agencies to feed disinformation or a honeypot honeypot. Obvious speculation, but clearly he understands the game on the table better than us. Still, it is a tactic as old as time, so I am sure plenty fall victim to some degree
For each of your 80 stories there are probably a dozen stories of former frat boys and Trump/Epstein types also being in compromising relationships.
I think it has much less to do with any individual's sexual history and much more to do with the rapacious/hypersexual elite culture in USA and elsewhere.
in addition to corporate aircraft, drivers, physicians, security, etc... it's high time boardrooms start provisioning high-performing CEOs with concubines.
Why? I think it is the most important thing. How can you get peak performance from the men, when they physiologically stop caring about all that important for capitalization stuff when they chasing the woman?
He said concubine not slave. You have to be blind if you believe there aren't enough modern women who would be more than willing to have casual sex with a mil/billionaire for money when most of them already (try to) do that for free.
Mostly monogamous marriage is almost certainly a stable equilibrium given that you see it in societies all over the world that had no contact with each other and little in common otherwise. You see monogamous marriage in neolithic europe as well as among native americans.
I suspect that before the invention of agriculture and ownership of land, serial monogamy with occasional fooling around was the most prevalent relationship style. Once people could develop wealth they started worrying about passing it down to their children and that led to more settling down.
The topic of the submission is one relationship. A comment that sweepingly denounces all immigration from a country is the epitome of generic tangent and flamebait. If you weren’t aware of that, then now you are aware. The entire purpose of HN is to cultivate higher quality discussions than this.
> A comment that sweepingly denounces all immigration from a country
It isn’t a controversial idea anywhere else in the world to suggest that foreign nationals should not have access to critical infrastructure, and that is central to the whole discussion that is being had here.
> The entire purpose of HN is to cultivate higher quality discussions than this
It will be hard to fulfill that purpose if the discussions get shut down before they even occur.
> It isn’t a controversial idea anywhere else in the world to suggest that foreign nationals should not have access to critical infrastructure
Your initial comment didn’t mention “critical infrastructure”, and even if it did, it was posted in an inflammatory style, whereas one of the first rules of HN is to converse curiously.
Generic denunciations of immigration are almost guaranteed to lead to the lowest quality discussions anywhere in the world you bring them up. If you have anything new or interesting to say about immigration that can lead to curious conversation, you’re welcome to share it, but so far you haven’t tried.
Please stop acting like a jerk, both in this subthread and more generally on HN. Your comments are among the lowest quality we’re seeing on the site lately. Please try harder to contribute positively, or go somewhere else.
Until recently the US was on the side of international cooperation. It's not only a pity that this has changed but it's sad to see that people are completely forgetting this, as well as seemingly forgetting the incredibly bloody history that we had to endure before embracing the idea of respectful cooperation.
Now China is the grown-up in the room while the US is running around like a maniac in Venezuela, Iran, and wherever else
China who is encroaching on its neighboring countries? Attacking ships in Philippines waters. Yelling at everyone demanding respect while disrespecting everyone around them.
> India and China share a disputed 3,440km (2,100-mile) boundary known as the Line of Actual Control (LAC). This de facto border runs through remote and inaccessible natural paths along the Himalayas, passing through rivers, remote mountains and forest cover. It is ill-defined and its demarcations have remained a source of contention between two neighbours who fought a major war in 1962, in which India suffered a humiliating defeat.
But if we have to reach back to 1951 to show how warmongering China is then it's not very convincing is it? Taiwan is as of today a hypothetical. I've been hearing it's going to happen any day now since the 1990s.
Yes, so we're reaching back to the 50s to get to the same numbers as the US has racked up in the past year. What we if we compared the numbers since 1950?
> Article 8 is the relevant one
And has there been an invasion or a toppling of any leaders? No, so again this shows there's a grown up way of recognising there's differences without going all in on war at the drop of a hat.
If you were aware, why were you reaching for the further date as to minimize my point, rather than the more contemporary events? It came off as bad faith.
Further, I was not equivocating the US and China, hence my qualifier of "historically" in my other post; it was said that way to point out that China has in fact invaded other countries in the past. If your bar for "no, its ok" is "hasn't invaded a country in the past 12 months", then by that bar, the vast majority of countries on Earth are just dandy. I think that line of thinking is naive, though.
Regarding article 8; for a law to say what is essentially "we will invade you", and your response is "well... haven't happened yet! It's fine!", that again shows either a bad faith engagement or just naivity.
If the Chinese create such desirable societies, why is it that so many of them are eager to leave China in order to live in the Anglosphere? Why is it that there is no equivalent flow of migrants out of the Anglosphere into China?
You're not contradicting anything the poster said. The reason for a lot of Chinese students and workers having high IQs wasn't the point of discussion, the sheer quantity was, and most people can see they have a lot of such people.
> It has always struck me as absurd that America is so accessible to Chinese nationals.
The US as a whole is accessible to a ton of foreign nationals because there was a push in like the 70s-early 2000s to offshore as much as possible to developing nations and exploit the arbitrage of wage labor back home. That was coupled with a foreign policy that was essentially trying to assimilate the cultures through that trade relation. Obviously China didn't reciprocate that, and many other places didn't either. But the America side of that open door policy (sentiment really) hasn't really gone away, even with the more recent immigration stuff.
I was responding to the claim that "China" or "Chinese as a whole" have higher IQs, that's not really what's happening. Which is why I brought up India, because it's a similar situation, lots and lots of people, plenty of those people are really smart. But it's a measure of a distribution, not really meaningful when talking about the people as whole themselves. Which itself is reductionist.
I think it's hard to get a good read on China's actual economic situation from the outside. Which, in itself, speaks to larger issues as we would understand them in the West.
There are plenty information about China on the outside, but nobody is paying anyone to push those into your feeds. It doesn't benefit any US entities to paint China in good light, and China largely doesn't market itself to the wider world (maybe to their detriment).
I don't think people care about press freedom when they are struggling to pay rent, buy food, get healthcare, or try to better themselves through education.
There's ~20 years of record that those believing western MSM reporting becuz muh free press on PRC are basically mouth breathing rubes at this point. There's are literally 10s of millions of PRC diaspora whose banal wisdom of crowd gossip has been more reliable signal than western reporting. Pick the most rabid PRC nationalist twitter account vs Economist and compare notes, and statistically the brain damaged nationalist would prove to be more accurate/predicative. Free press =/= accurate. There's a reason free press stans are some of the dumbest motherfuckers on PRC.
Like it's 2026, 5th estate for propaganda has been thoroughly gamed system by now. Why does PRC develop so many spies / use their diaspora for information... because they know US / western free press is compromised to make useful idiots "feel" that 5th estate reports the truth because they theoretically could (even when they don't). Not that they even could, reminder PRC gave most US reporter the reciprocal boot, no press freedom doesn't magically only hobble PRC 5th estate, though that never stopped western libtard reporters and rightoid thinktankers from making shit up - its just there's no pretense that they aren't anymore, all the while US gov allocates 100s of millions for information warfare.
Would you want to spend your time in a nation looking for 2 of their smart people out of 1000 or make national ties so you can get hundreds of smart people out of their billion?
Also internal distributions will not be even, those smart people are far more likely to be clustered.
This article has the flavor of a strategic political leak by the Trump administration, likely a prelude to blackmail to get NVidia to do something friendly to the administration. You don't have multiple "people briefed on the surveillance, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the findings are drawn from classified intelligence" unless someone high-up in the CIA is greenlighting the leak; that's a crime punishable by decades in prison. And then the whole article has the flavor of "We appreciate your continued support, Jensen, we know you have been a strong ally in public, but if you think of defying us we will hit you with espionage charges and throw you in jail. Look, the groundwork is already in the NYTimes."
Makes me wonder what the next headline is going to be, probably some deal between NVidia and the federal government over export restrictions or something.
> "Makes me wonder what the next headline is going to be, probably some deal between NVidia and the federal government over export restrictions or something."
Chinese models disappearing from HuggingFace (recently acquired by Nvidia).
GLM-flash and Qwen-next disappeared from ArtificialAnalysis (the top benchmark site) a few days ago; I was wondering if that was a prelude to something greater. Testing the waters.
"These days" are ending. Nothing about the current geopolitical climate, global supply chain, energy price, or socioeconomic reality of inter-generational quality of life chasm is stable. Taking a trillion dollar bite out of a bubble beneficiary is a clear opening move for a novel government with restored oversight and an eye on the books.
I'm pretty sure that's not it. They had 30+ models benchmarked and ready at launch, for a seamless transition. We're talking about the charts that're the hero images on their landing page.
These comparison charts missing two of the most popular models are defective.
(Also, these two happen to be "flash" models, which are among the fastest and cheapest to run benchmarks on. Pennies per task).
So they leaked a story about Nvidia violating export restrictions in order to “blackmail” Nvidia into… obeying export restrictions? Wow, that’s some good old fashioned Trumpian 44D chess right there.
It's implicitly "President Trump was briefed and took no action yet."
You don't write about it in the NYTimes unless there's a purpose. That purpose is leverage. If you're negotiating, you don't blow all your leverage upfront; you subtly let the other party know you have it, and then wait to see if they play ball. If they don't, that's when you apply pressure.
Another interpretation is that someone in the intelligence community felt that since Trump was ignoring what they perceived to be a serious threat to security, their best recourse was to use the media to raise an alarm.
Hmm, that's a possible read on it. I'd initially assumed an administration leak because the article seems more pro-Trump than the facts warrant (eg. "Mr. Huang, one of the most powerful figures in the A.I. revolution as well as an influential ally of President Trump’s" => Jensen Huang seems neutral/Democratic to me, though primarily concerned with the survival of his business, the picture of the White House luncheon with tech leaders => look at how he's projecting power and the support of the tech community, "People who have watched the two men interact say Mr. Trump has been won over by the lavish praise Mr. Huang has given the president in public" => look at how much lavish praise Mr. Trump gets!). But on a second read, all of those could be interpreted as the CIA complaining about how the close relationship between Trump & Huang is jeopardizing national security, and a few other comments in the article (eg. the sentences about how the Biden administration moved to clamp down on AI exports to China before Trump took over, and how this investigation started under the Biden administration) would support that read.
If she is a spy I doubt china gave her much choice. I wonder if they paid her or just threatened her loved ones. Either way, she had to hang out with Jensen Huang, poor woman.
Has Jensen ever expressed an interest or personality?
To me, he seems the platonic ideal of the immigrant Bay Area tech worker. There's absolutely nothing inside besides the will and drive to succeed at work.
A spy?! Almost half the people working in usa big tech are asian. If it tips over 50% you could call the white people the spies in asian companies located in usa
Are you a CEO? Those invites might work a bit differently.
You are not the CEO of the largest company in the world.
This. They seem to be making a mountain out of a molehill that seems to consist of a couple of normal business meetings.
I wonder how many times SV is in contact with the CIA. And we all know the revolving door between Israeli tech companies and their security services.
China bad works for the American audience I suppose.
It’s the NY Post. Did anyone really expect serious journalism..?
Wasn’t it originally in NYT? Yeah, don’t expect much from NYT nowadays.
Great reporting can come from unlikely sources. If you told anyone from 2013 that TMZ would be a semi-respected publication in 2026, you’d have been laughed out of the room.
Since when are they semi respected?
TMZ is and has always been a trash publication.
However, they have always been remarkably factual. They always verify everything they publish is true.
This was also true and widely known back in 2013.

> The Post is not exactly top notch journalism.
Not sure why the New York Post is being used here considering its complete lack of credibility and the fact this story appeared in the New York Times first
>Nvidia Chief Seen as Target of Chinese Spy Plot [updated 3:27pm ET today]

Are you questioning Mr. Alexander Hamilton's New York Post???
They're questioning Rupert Murdoch's tabloid-era New York Post, not Dorothy Schiff's liberal NY Post or Alexander Hamilton's Federalist NY Post.
Probably because you read 5 seconds into NYT and get hit with a paywall.
PW;DR, but I'm never going to let that stop me from still leaving comments >:-)
Yeah, but "somebody unlocked the story for you"!
HN usually has a helpful ad-free permalink and this one here is no exception.
Though the NYT article should be the primary one, not the ny post one.
Sure. But I'm sure linking to a paywall inevitably affects the traffic to the post. Extra clicks and scrolling to find a readable link only adds friction.
[flagged]

Ehhhhh?
And by that, I mean...
> We have no clue what actually happened.
We have on the record sources saying that he was not warned by the government. Hence me saying this is a story about government failure.
Who are the sources? Can you link me their claims?
This is how news reporting works. The sources are not willing to speak publicly because they're talking about classified information. The NYT has verified their identity. You have to trust that NYT is right.
I realize that's an unsatisfactory answer for many. But it's how journalism has to work sometimes.
You said:
> We have on the record sources
You are not on the record if you are anonymous.
Yes, you are. On the record just means “for publication”, as in, you are aware that what you’re saying is going to be repeated publicly. The phrase has nothing to do with public attribution.
> On-the-record, in journalism, means anything in a communication may be publicly disclosed
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_the_Record
Funny you link there and not the main article that contradicts it:
> "On the record": all that is said can be quoted and attributed.
> "Unattributable": what is said can be reported but not attributed.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Source_(journalism)#Speaking_t...
Sounds like a certain president screaming "Fake news fake news!"
Nothing has to be collected. All they need to show is that she has some link to foreign government intelligence and attempted to do anything. Good chance she was an unregistered agent which is a violation.
Please can we get this fixed to point to the NY Times article; they broke this story no?
Also, New York Post? Let's do better.
What exactly does "better" mean? Both are tools for manipulating public opinion. The NYT is better at inflating it's own reputation.
If NYT was honest, at some point in the past decade it would have acknowledged that one of the primary reporters on its Donald Trump beat was the daughter of an executive VP at the long-time PR firm of Fred and Donald Trump.
https://archive.is/dOHL1
> Doomed: Pushed on the subway track, this man is about to die
https://nypost.com/2012/12/05/a-picture-of-controversy/
There's a man that fell off the subway platform, about to get killed by the subway train, and the New York post photographer saw a great opportunity for a photo op for his employer instead of, y'know helping the guy out. Sure, the NYT has had its fair share of scandals but the NY Post isn't well respected for a whole other level of malfeasance.
I guess the Post would need to help start a war that kills a couple hundred thousand people before they're seen as respectable.
https://fair.org/home/20-years-later-nyt-still-cant-face-its...
FWIW, the photographer, Rashid Umar Abbasi, was a freelance photographer.
It means don't submit trashy tabloids articles, especially on stories where they didn't do the original reporting.
I doubt the NY Post would even deny they are a trashy tabloid. It's their whole thing and understanding that is how you make money in that game.
Please stop posting archive.is links. That is a malware distributor.

Better means holding itself to journalistic standards as opposed to catering to the most base instincts of its audience.
The issues you allude to don’t create an equivalence, except in the minds of people with no capacity for discernment whatsoever.
I.e. NYT readers prefer their propaganda with a hefty side of snobbery.
If you can’t tell the difference between two things that are obviously very different, you lack discernment. It’s nothing to do with snobbery, although people who struggle with such issues often perceive it that way because they don’t want to acknowledge shortcomings in themselves.
I was shocked this wasn't flagged into oblivion. NYPost is notoriously wrongspeak.
For the thousandth time, don’t use archive.ph/archive.is/archive.today, THEY ARE ATTACK SITES.
Not everyone might be aware of what you are talking about. Would prefer some Context
https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46624740 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50275373
There’s still no evidence that the malicious PDFs were planted by archive.today. The source could have served malicious content to the crawler, no?
The site was/is used to DDoS other sites. This is the first time I’ve seen anyone mention PDFs so you might be trying to mislead people.
This was still somewhat fresh on the feed: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50275373
About the DDoS, were they not aimed at someone trying to dox the maintainer and pretty much ruin their life? Sounds like defending to me, not attacking. I have absolutely no problem contributing my bandwidth to their defense while visiting the site.
It was someone revealing that the site is run by a Russian person.
I doubt Jensen is completely out of the scheme TBH.
This is why courtiers were provided with state-mandated GFs for all of human history up until about 40 years ago.
Sounds like a good Chinese spy. Jensen Huang is the exact kind of relationship I would want my spies to foster if I was China.
You’d be a pretty shit spy agency if you didn’t have agents at least in these people’s orbits.

Or Cami Clark and her relationships with Jeffrey Epstein, Eric Schmidt, Dario Amodei...
Isn't Cami Clark just the classic sleep-their-way-up type? She didn't end up in the Whitehouse unlike a certain other one but her marriage at 20 was to a 64 year old...
(According to the Wall Street Journal)
Well, no, because she approached Jeffrey Epstein after his release from serving a prison sentence for child prostitution, and proposed (to him!) that they start up a "porn company" together. There are no "classic" explanations for that specific chapter of her biography.
I don't know what to make of this person's life story; she's certainly an extreme statistical outlier.
What is going on with Megaspeed anyway?
> US authorities have been investigating Megaspeed over suspicions that it helped Chinese firms circumvent US export restrictions and smuggle advanced Nvidia chips into China, the Times reported.
lol, honestly this is so stupid, did they really think that the GPUs wouldn't have wound up there?
If might be stupid but it was the law. Did Jensen know that superspeed were sending chips to china and still sold to them?
What did Jensen know and when did he know it?
He should be forced to testify in front of congress.
If they start pursuing the law the entire administration is gonna have a hard time.
But looks like to be common for older Chinese to alter that much profile pictures.
yea, Chinese ladies use those crazy filters and i was shocked to find out how they looked like in real life.
The honeypots are 100% the best part of being a spy or a VIP target for an intelligence agency.
On that note, they never worked on french spies as infidelity and sex stuff hold seemingly zero leverage over french men.
> On that note, they never worked on french spies as infidelity and sex stuff hold seemingly zero leverage over french men.
Tell that to Jean-Luc Brunel.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Luc_Brunel
IIUC: Brunel was into underage girls and intelligence agencies cannot employ kids..
According to Bustamante the CIA will readily supply illicit materials to their assets.
They can traffic them though, see Epstein and Mossad.
The "sex stuff" is doing A LOT of heavy lifting here.
Sure? He didn't kill himself because people found out, but because he was faced with spending the rest of his life in prison.
He maybe didn't even kill himself? Just like Epstein.
Epstein & company were involved probably in Iran Contra, arms deals in Angola and mysterious transactions involving human trafficking:
https://www.theguardian.com/business/2025/oct/31/jp-morgan-j...
You may be interested in the case of Bernard Boursicot.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernard_Boursicot
Only a "close relationship", no sex is alleged.
The linked nypost article certainly means to imply an illicit affair, both in how things are phrased and the mention of his wife and kids (the existence of which has no bearing on the story other than to remind you they exist while he is hanging out with some other female).
This may be entirely unfair framing of course.
It's still advisable to pretend that it might work, though. Just saying...you've got to think strategically when you work in the national security business.
"I swear it was to make them waste resources and time on me, mon chérie!"
It was publicly known that Mitterrand had a mistress

Why is the post and the times in the same hacker news post? What's the point of this.
Always wondered how one chooses the profession of literal prostitution for a government
Isn’t that what soldiers do?
Soldiers kill for governments, prostitution is hired sex
being a solider is not getting laid and doing stupid BS 95% of the time, and living in life-ending terror 5% of the time.
prostitues, esp. fancy government ones, only have to work 2 hours a day, on their back. low chance of dying. and getting laid, albeit maybe not your ideal partner.
[dead]
That type of profession chooses you, not you chooses the profession.
I doubt it, if I understand that correctly that's not the regular prostitute due to her harsh life, but some different kind of patriotic prostitute

Looks like McCarthyism is back on the menu. Big media is out in force to push a narrative.
It is NY Post after all
EDIT: Looks like link now points to NYT
They cite their source in the second paragraph…
I don't see that in either article.
Here on HN, the submitter submitted a link to the NYPost article, but in the description they put a link to the NYTimes version and an archive.is capture of the NYTimes.
Yes, and I didn't see sources in either article in the second paragraph.
There are no sources cited in that!
What the fuck do you think “the New York Times reported Thursday” means? It’s even a link!
That's not a source. The source would be whoever the New York Times talked to, which they actually don't cite:
> This account is based on interviews with people briefed on the surveillance, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the findings are drawn from classified intelligence, as well as other officials and industry executives and analysts.
> That's not a source
It very literally is. A biography on Thomas Jefferson will list sources. It would be beyond nonsense to suggest the book has no sources because it didn't talk to a dead man.
> The source would be whoever the New York Times talked to
That would be their source. Someone complaining about the Post should know the difference.
I assume they meant the second paragraph of the HN link. On mobile the link description renders as a paragraph of text after the title.
No I meant TFA.
McCarthyism on the menu? Why, Cold War II is already being served! Hurry up, it's getting... cold : o
> Roughly a year ago, Mr. Trump was briefed about the intelligence findings, which have not been previously reported, and chose not to do anything with the information.
Res ipsa loquitor
to be fair Jensen seems to be rubbing butts with pretty much anyone the past year.

"Nvidia Corporation[a] (/ɛnˈvɪdiə/ en-VID-ee-ə) is an American multinational technology company"
That's the thing about capitalism, businesses can sell to customers.
It's actually unbelievable how blatantly corrupt the united states is now.
Just beyond words.
Content aside I am not sure why anyone on HN reads the nypost. Be better than that. Please.
This is an apparent nothingburger with zero hint of anything outside plain old business schmoozing on Jensen's part. 'Close relationship' is a really good weasel word (weasel phrase?).
weaselwhistle
> Roughly a year ago, Mr. Trump was briefed about the intelligence findings, which have not been previously reported, and chose not to do anything with the information. Mr. Trump has been wary of disrupting Nvidia’s chip sales, which are helping to drive the economy and the stock market, and of further complicating the trading relationship with China.
Lmao
He's saving it as kompromat.
the man would be an expert on kompromat
What are we even doing here?
Sounds like the dead ANT faction with their monopoly wrapped in sanctimony schemes wants to throw shade on the smartest guy in the room, as if Trump or anyone around him is going to believe anything that comes out of the NY Times anyway. I wouldn't expect these people to lose gracefully but this is just pathetic.
...
Zuck apparently made a huge statue of his wife.
That seems like either the behavior of an extremely devoted husband or the behavior of a husband who cheats shamelessly and then gives her showy gifts to "make up for it"
More likely he watched "Scarface" one night and got the idea that's what cool people with money do.
One of those, ya I could if I wanted to but hey look I have self control…most of the time.
i know gates did and got a lot of stds. first i am hearing of bezos doing it.
I think the implication was older than 18.
That could make sense. I assumed it was a dig at how his current wife has had a lot of bad work done.
I can see it now. A US national security program to get future CEOs laid more. What.
What did you think the Looksmaxxing movement was?
[dead]
I don't understand how anyone could not support that idea.
I mean that probably already exists in the broad sense of counter-intel. A premptive honeypot if you will.
This.
Once you open pandoras box, you dont put it back in. It doesnt matter what age.
The whole, they didnt get enough when younger, sounds like a very strange weird explanation that falls flat when you think for more than 5s about it.
Anyway, here's an actual study about sociosexuality that followed 288 men and those that got married and had kids showed a decrease in casual sex vs men who didn't.
https://digitalcommons.unl.edu/famconfacpub/267/
I have no idea what you are talking about. Sounds like a nerve was struck.
What is the point of the study? I have seen it before. What does it prove?
I think that is a rather simplistic view of what motivates people.
I would at least like to see some statistics on how much early adulthood behaviour predicts particular later life behaviours before making any conclusions.
Rather than characterising things as 'getting enough trim' perhaps a broader education in dealing with the emotions of life might be more productive.
Likely never as that's an ego death many of these guys couldn't handle. They'd implode from shame.
I’m yet to see evidence that getting more in your youth makes you want less as you age.
Those plots didn't come from nowhere...
> how not getting enough trim in your younger years makes you especially vulnerable to these schemes once you acquire power and wealth?
I don't sure there is any connection. It is the same things regardless of your popularity in younger years.
Still, it is a tactic as old as time, so I am sure plenty fall victim to some degree
they are probably gonna target these AI nerds next
universal basic girlfriend you say?
That needs to come with an additional allowance for pumpkin spice lattes.
> not getting enough trim in your younger years
Huh?
translation: not enough sex
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/trim (second noun sense, def #8)
For each of your 80 stories there are probably a dozen stories of former frat boys and Trump/Epstein types also being in compromising relationships.
I think it has much less to do with any individual's sexual history and much more to do with the rapacious/hypersexual elite culture in USA and elsewhere.
Gates and co were/are "Epstein types". They were just honeypotted by Mossad not China via the girls Epstein trafficked.
Don’t forget the Bilderberg Group, Bigfoot, and aliens!
Bigfoot and aliens don't exist. The human trafficking industry is very real. Don't be so dismissive.
wtf would that discussion even look like?
in addition to corporate aircraft, drivers, physicians, security, etc... it's high time boardrooms start provisioning high-performing CEOs with concubines.
i pray that this is a joke
Why? I think it is the most important thing. How can you get peak performance from the men, when they physiologically stop caring about all that important for capitalization stuff when they chasing the woman?
do the women get a say in your legally mandated capitalist harem?
He said concubine not slave. You have to be blind if you believe there aren't enough modern women who would be more than willing to have casual sex with a mil/billionaire for money when most of them already (try to) do that for free.
No, that’s just Musk’s alt account.
Maybe monogamy is not natural for men?
Mostly monogamous marriage is almost certainly a stable equilibrium given that you see it in societies all over the world that had no contact with each other and little in common otherwise. You see monogamous marriage in neolithic europe as well as among native americans.
I suspect that before the invention of agriculture and ownership of land, serial monogamy with occasional fooling around was the most prevalent relationship style. Once people could develop wealth they started worrying about passing it down to their children and that led to more settling down.
because rich fucks can't keep it in their pants? how would that be indicative of anything?
I think you just proved his point without noticing.

Please don't post flamebait or instigate generic tangents on HN. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
Ridiculous. The thread is discussing Chinese espionage.
No, China is no more a grownup than the US.
Has China invaded any countries or captured any foreign leaders this year?

incredible reach
> India and China share a disputed 3,440km (2,100-mile) boundary known as the Line of Actual Control (LAC). This de facto border runs through remote and inaccessible natural paths along the Himalayas, passing through rivers, remote mountains and forest cover. It is ill-defined and its demarcations have remained a source of contention between two neighbours who fought a major war in 1962, in which India suffered a humiliating defeat.
Historically, Vietnam and Tibet, though Taiwan seems on deck to be next.
But if we have to reach back to 1951 to show how warmongering China is then it's not very convincing is it? Taiwan is as of today a hypothetical. I've been hearing it's going to happen any day now since the 1990s.
The Sino-Vietnamese war was in 1979; the Tibetan takeover was in the 50's. Regarding Taiwan, how about PRC's own laws? https://us.china-embassy.gov.cn/eng/zt/twwt/200503/t20050315... (Article 8 is the relevant one)
> The Sino-Vietnamese war was in 1979
I'm aware.
> the Tibetan takeover was in the 50's
China adds another dash to their South China Sea claim every other year it seems
China is high IQ. It is one of the top countries you will want to brain drain from.
If the Chinese create such desirable societies, why is it that so many of them are eager to leave China in order to live in the Anglosphere? Why is it that there is no equivalent flow of migrants out of the Anglosphere into China?
This is nonsense, China has a massive population, like india. So they have some benefits when it comes to distributions.
You're not contradicting anything the poster said. The reason for a lot of Chinese students and workers having high IQs wasn't the point of discussion, the sheer quantity was, and most people can see they have a lot of such people.
>It has always struck me as absurd that America is so accessible to Chinese nationals.
This is what I was responding to. I'm trying to figure out how it is nonsense because India has a large population.
India already makes up like 70% of H1Bs.
Unlike India tho, China isn't burdened by American Imperialism and suffering from extreme economic poverty.
If you have sources I would be curious, even the Chinese language ones I've found have seemed, lacking, for want of a better word.
> but nobody is paying anyone to push those into your feeds
Speak for yourself. The CCP have been showing me images of nice clean high-speed rail stations in China for the last 2 years.

Hilarious
China ranks 178 out of 180 in press freedom. How are you then getting plenty of information that is accurate?
https://rsf.org/en/2026-rsf-index-press-freedom-25-year-low
I don't think people care about press freedom when they are struggling to pay rent, buy food, get healthcare, or try to better themselves through education.
Hilarious
Why it is nonsense then?
Would you want to spend your time in a nation looking for 2 of their smart people out of 1000 or make national ties so you can get hundreds of smart people out of their billion?
Also internal distributions will not be even, those smart people are far more likely to be clustered.
Sounds like a Bond movie plot.
It sounds like anti-Chinese propaganda. This is the NY Post we're talking about.
Its headline of the NYT - not sure we have ny post version of the article here.
This NYT? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judith_Miller
The headline is from the Post article, not the NYT version is much better.
That's likely new coming PRC sanctions on exporting LLMs, not something Nvidia did. https://sanctionsnews.bakermckenzie.com/china-proposes-expan...
Gee that's pretty much an antitrust case right there. Sell NVidia while you can.
Um, lol, no.
For one, the US doesn't do anti-trust these days, just pay off uncle-trump to get your way.
Two, there are tons of model providers.
The models are still on AA, not sure what you mean
They're not? They are no longer benchmarked, and not available on any of the charts (not even manually).
Their benchmarks have been replaced with "N/A" for several days now,
https://artificialanalysis.ai/models/qwen3-8-flash-next
https://artificialanalysis.ai/models/glm-5-3-flash/
Oh I see, sorry, I just went as far as checking they were still on the site, didn't check the details.
That is really weird given how widely used they are.
AA updated their benchmark a few days ago and haven't retested every model yet, you can scroll down the page and see those in the old benchmarks
What about this part: "President Trump was briefed and took no action." ?
It's implicitly "President Trump was briefed and took no action yet."
You don't write about it in the NYTimes unless there's a purpose. That purpose is leverage. If you're negotiating, you don't blow all your leverage upfront; you subtly let the other party know you have it, and then wait to see if they play ball. If they don't, that's when you apply pressure.
It's not the NYT but the NY Post, Rupert Murdoch tabloid media.
It's also in the NYTimes.
So you're saying it might actually be news??
Needs to check in with daddy putin first.

I would be very interesting in seeing who this spy is, and what her relationship with him was.
Is she relatively hot? Did he get honeytrapped? Someone like him should be aware of the meta of such shenanigans.
[dead]
I feel it is a bit naive to think Jansen would be a spy. He would hire all the spies and be the boss of both sides. It is not like he has to choose it
If she is a spy I doubt china gave her much choice.
I wish more billionaires kept their opinions to themselves, rather than trying to influence everybody.
Agree. Fuck off to billionaire island already. Instead we get "casual destroy the government".
He has a leather jacket, does that count?
A spy?! Almost half the people working in usa big tech are asian. If it tips over 50% you could call the white people the spies in asian companies located in usa
The article has nothing to do with race.
Lol what on earth?
